DIY Brick Laying

December 16, 2025

One of the things I love about the past was the attention to detail put into the design of everything. Masonry, like many other crafts, is an old art form. Well placed brick can bring a lot of visual interest to a space, so with the goals of adding something beautiful to my life and dipping my toe into the art of brick laying, I felt inspired to DIY the brick entryway of my home.

For the brick, I went with this beautiful Herringbone layout and corner pieces by Old Mill Brick. I went with the color of Olympus because I felt it matched the look of my exterior best.

To cut the brick for the border of my walkway, I used a special Wet Saw by Ridgid. I’m not going to lie, this was a tedious process, but I prevailed!

The most intensive part of this whole experience was actually setting and laying the brick. Thankfully I had knee pads which saved my life while working on this project.

I used these spacers between bricks to keep everything even and crisp. To actually set the brick, I used SimpleSet Premixed Thin-Set Mortar and VersaBond 50 lb. Polymer-Modified Thinset Mortar

There were several tools that came in handy for getting a clean result including pointing trowels, jointers, and brushes.

Check out LTK for the complete product list used for this project!

Once finished, I waited for the adhesive (mortar) to dry completely and then sealed the brick using a 2 Gallon Pump sprayer and this amazing stone sealer from Black Diamond. This sealer is great because it keeps brick looking beautiful by preventing stains and weathering!

I’m loving how this all turned out! Was it worth it? Let me know in the comments!
