Trash Bin Lattice Cover DIY

July 30, 2025

My primary goal was simple: create a beautiful and functional storage solution to conceal those ugly trash bins. I wanted something that not only improved the look of my yard but also added a touch of charm. After some brainstorming, I came up with the idea of building a lattice section to beautifully hide my trash cans.

If you’re anything like me, you know that the area next to your garage can often become a neglected spot filled with overgrown plants and, let’s be honest, unsightly trash cans. It was a corner of my yard that could use some serious love, and I was tired of looking at it every day. Not to mention, the clutter didn’t help the overall aesthetics of my home. That’s when I decided it was time for a change!

Before jumping right into the project, I took some time to sketch out my plans.

Here’s what I prepared

1. Location: I measured the area next to my garage to ensure I had enough space for my lattice and trash bins. I had to move a large bush to make room.

2. Materials: I decided that wooden lattice would be the perfect choice for both durability and aesthetics. I compiled a list of materials needed:

3. Design: I envisioned a simple yet elegant structure with a small gate for easy access. It was important to keep it functional while also blending seamlessly with the rest of my yard. I chose to paint mine Jungle Camouflage by Behr to match the color on my window trim.

Getting to Work

Once I had my plans in place, it was time to bring my vision to life!

I started by clearing out the area, which meant cutting back some overgrown weeds and removing any debris. This was surprisingly satisfying and gave me a better sense of the space.

Next, I dug the holes and set the posts into the ground where I wanted the lattice to stand (about 2 feet deep). Making sure they were level was crucial for a stable structure.

After that, I attached the PVC post covers and lattice panels to the posts using screws, creating a sturdy screen that would conceal my trash cans.

Adding the Finishing Touches

With the framework in place, the final touches involved painting the lattice to match my window trim and to give it a polished look. I chose Jungle Camouflage by Behr, ensuring that the entire area felt cohesive.

I also took some time to mulch and clean up my yard.

Final Thoughts

After a weekend of hard work, I finally stepped back to admire my creation.

The once-overgrown and cluttered spot transformed into a charming and functional area—one that I could proudly show off. The lattice not only discreetly hides the trash cans but also enhances the overall appeal of my yard.

If you’re grappling with a similar issue, I highly encourage you to take on this DIY project. It’s a fantastic way to reclaim an overlooked space while adding a personal touch to your outdoor area. Plus, you’ll be amazed at how much of a difference it can make! Happy building!
