Making a Halloween Mirror That Won’t Scare Your Bank Account!

Everywhere I look, those adorable skeleton mirrors are popping up, and they’re so charming! But when I checked the price tag, I was spooked—who wants to empty their wallet for Halloween decor? Instead, I decided to create my own version using materials I already had. Here’s how I crafted a fun and festive Halloween mirror without breaking the bank!

Materials Needed

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Prepare the Mirror Base: I started by cutting the plywood into a frame shape, adding curved corners for a whimsical touch.
  2. Secure the Mirror: Next, I secured the mirror to the plywood base, ensuring it was stable for the fun additions to come.
  3. Add Texture with Spray Foam: I then grabbed the spray foam (the same stuff I used for the snow on my gingerbread house last year!) and applied it to the frame. This created a textured look that added depth to the mirror, making it stand out even more.
  4. Position the Skeleton: Once the foam was set, I placed the skeleton’s head and hands where I wanted them. It was fun to get creative with the positioning!
  5. Final Touches: After everything dried, I sprayed the foam with black paint for a cohesive look and added gold paint for a creepy antique look. For the large skeleton upper body, I used curtain rod brackets that his rib cage sits in and holds the skeleton securely (but still removable/adjustable).
  6. To add some spooky ambiance, I placed battery-powered candles in the skeleton’s hands, giving it a fun glow.

Before and After

Seeing my empty wall transform into a festive focal point was incredibly satisfying. It’s amazing how a little creativity can turn an old mirror into something uniquely Halloween!

This project was not only budget-friendly but also a blast to create. I loved reusing materials and giving new life to items I already had. Plus, it’s always a joy to see something you made come to life in your home!
If you’re looking for a fun and budget-conscious way to decorate for Halloween, I encourage you to try making your own spooky mirror! It’s a great way to get into the spirit of the season without scaring your wallet. I’d love to hear about your Halloween projects, so feel free to share in the comments!
