DIY Advent Calendar

Every year my kids LOVE counting down the days until Christmas! I have bought many advent calendars throughout the years but I really wanted one that had some natural elements to it. I also wanted something that I could customize and fill with little treasures for my children to enjoy.

Here is what I came up with!

(I also made a similar one last year! These cute little advent boxes are reusable!

Supplies:

Step 1: Find that branch!

I had been keeping this branch in my garage for over a year! I knew I could use it for something and this project turned out to be perfect for it! Anyone else keep branches and stumps for years? Come on, I know someone out there does.

Step 2:

Gather your cardboard advent boxes, start folding way, and then fill them with your favorite treats!

Step 3:

Tie the boxes closed with twine making sure to attach the number card to it. You want to vary the lengths for the strings so that the boxes are spread out and sit flat once the calendar is hung on wall.

Step 4:

Tie all of your stuffed boxes to the branch.

Step 5:

Hang your branch. I used three 2” nails making sure to angle the nail down to help hold the weight of the branch. My middle nail actually lined up directly with a wall stud. I also used floral wire to wrap around each nail and around the branch to hold it securely to the nail.

Step 6:

Gather some greens from outside or faux greens of your choice and use floral wire to secure the greenery to the branch. I also added some dried oranges to a few pieces of twine this year for a pop of color.
