🐰 How I Built the Cutest DIY Bunny Medicine Cabinet (and Totally Upped My Self-Care Game)

Hi friends! I have something ridiculously adorable (and completely unnecessary) to share with you today—a DIY bunny medicine cabinet that has not only changed Bun Bun’s life (yes, my rabbit has a name and a routine), but also brought more intention into my mornings.

Because let’s be real: juggling five kids, a business, and about 37 projects at once means self-care usually comes last. But not anymore. This tiny project brought a little joy, a little order, and a lot of personality into our home—and I can’t wait to show you how to do the same.

Spoiler alert: this project includes vitamins, cuteness overload, and a bunny photo shoot. You’re welcome. 🐰💕

✨ Why a Bunny Medicine Cabinet?

So here’s the thing—I was organizing my own bathroom cabinet and realized… why doesn’t Bun Bun have a space like this? I mean, the bunny has a dedicated playpen, a spa brush, his own woven basket for bedtime (yes, really), but his care items? Scattered. Everywhere. No system. No style.

Meanwhile, my Nature Made Zero Sugar Gummies had this beautiful little jar on the shelf and were basically the star of my morning routine. So, naturally, I had to give Bun Bun something just as fabulous.

And thus: the bunny medicine cabinet was born.

Not a low calorie food. But very cute on the counter.

Supplies:

Tools:

Materials:

  • 1×4 boards (or scrap wood—upcycle, baby!)
  • MDF or plywood back panel
  • Small containers or jars (hello, upcycled lip balm tins)
  • Mini picture frame
  • Paint, wallpaper, or contact paper for styling
  • Washi tape + label maker (for tiny labels, of course)
  • Magnetic latch or hook
  • Command strips (if mounting without damage)

🐇 Bonus Flair:

  • Brass corner brackets
  • Fabric scraps
  • Stick-on hooks
  • Ribbon, Mod Podge, or even a mini mirror!

Step-by-Step Instructions: DIY Bunny Medicine Cabinet

1. Design Your Cabinet

Think about what you’re storing. Vitamins? Brushes? Tiny bunny bow ties? My cabinet is around 5” x 5” x 4”, but you can go larger or add depth if you have more grooming supplies.

📏 Pro Tip: Sketch it out first! Even just a little napkin doodle helps you stay on track when cutting.

2. Cut Your Pieces

You’ll need:

  • 2 side panels (5” tall)
  • 1 top + 1 bottom (width matches the side panel spacing)
  • 1 back panel (plywood or MDF)
  • 1 front door (same size as the front opening)

Cut everything and give it a quick sand for smoother edges.

3. Assemble the Frame

Glue + clamp your pieces together to create a little box. If you’re using a brad nailer (my fave tool for quick builds), secure each joint and let it dry. Then attach the back panel.

📌 Bonus: You can add a tiny shelf inside using an extra wood scrap!

4. Create the Door

Here’s where it gets fun:

  • Cut the front door from matching wood.
  • Attach with mini hinges.
  • Customize the inside: I added a photo of Bun Bun in a mini frame. Yes, I had a whole bunny photoshoot and no regrets.

5. Customize Everything

Decorate the inside with:

  • Wallpaper scraps
  • Washi tape borders
  • Labels like “Bun Bun’s Meds” or “Some Bunny Special”

And the outside?

  • Paint it to match your vanity
  • Stain it rustic cottage-core brown
  • Add gold handles for luxury

6. Mount It

Use Command strips to mount it inside a closet, cabinet, or pet care nook. Or display it on a shelf as part of your morning routine station!

My Wellness Routine (Now Bunny-Approved)

So while Bun Bun’s chomping on his daily vitamin (he’s slow and dramatic), I take my Nature Made Zero Sugar Gummies. They’re tasty, easy, and make me feel like I’ve already done something good for myself—before 9 a.m.

And since they’re sugar-free‡, I don’t have to stress about unnecessary stuff sneaking into my system.

This little cabinet actually reminds me to take my vitamins. Having them styled in a pretty jar next to Bun Bun’s cabinet? Total vibe.

Final Thoughts: Big Joy from Small Projects

This cabinet might be small, but it made a BIG difference. Every morning, it brings a little structure, a little style, and a little joy to my day. That’s the power of intentional spaces—even tiny ones.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or just need something fun to kickstart your creativity, this is your sign. Build a cabinet, personalize it, and make space for the habits (and creatures) that matter most.
